Experience
I have many years of experience in making fine hand made and workshop instruments, as well as restoring wonderful older instruments.
I started my studies with Charles Fox in 1978. Through the years I have owned a violin shop, making work shop and handcrafted instruments. I have travelled extensively throughout Europe buying fine stringed instruments. I search the auctions in London, New York, and Boston to resource fine stringed instruments and bows.
While the word Curate is over used, it is the proper term for my approach with the instruments that I offer.
Each instrument is treated with this maker's touch, insuring that measurements are correct and that vibration is free and robust. A fine and proper protein ground and multiple layers of fine oil varnish are applied to insure excellent tone and tone maturation. Individual elements of style in varnish and carving are applied in homage to History's great violin making regions. All M&S workshop instruments are branded and labeled as workshop instruments.
Parts
I scour vendors in China and Europe and demand their best work. What does not meet my very high standards gets culled. Only the best woods and craftsmanship are suitable to make an M&S workshop instrument.
